![]() ![]() I'm hopeful that a decision to not make such an adapter was not motivated by greed. I don't see any reason, from a technical perspective, why such an adapter couldn't work. These companies have incentive to sell two USB-C adapters rather than one. Why? I have my suspicions that companies who make such adapters are attempting to make money from early adopters, and if they had made a simple USB-C to mini DisplayPort adapter it would have been backwards compatible with many of our old mini-DisplayPort to VGA/HDMI adapters. I have ordered one because I think having a hub like this in the office will reduce wire-clutter.Ĥ) What remains unresolved is a USB-C to mini DisplayPort adapter. Bourge Design (the company) seems to be on track to complete the ArcHub and begin shipping it in early 2017, as they are taking pre-orders for the thing now until December 31st. Unfortunately, this is a new company and it has been developing this accessory for the better part of 2016. Once some trusted company like Belkin comes out with a USB-C to mini DisplayPort adapter, I'll consider buying it.ģ) One ray of hope is the ArcHub 7-in-1 portable USB-C hub which comes with SD card, mini-DisplayPort, and HDMI ports in addition to 2xUSB-A and 2xUSB-C ports. This means that previous adapter cables, even those sold by Apple, will not be able to plug into the new adapter in a daisy-chain setup.Ģ) There are some USB-C to mini DisplayPort adapters available online but none seem to be reliable, and given the PSA's surrounding USB-C generic cables, I would be extra careful about this right now. Also, I have tried to connect the USB type C to Thunderbolt adapter to a straight Thunderbolt cable to the monitor, and that also did not work.ġ) The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter cable does not support mini DisplayPort. I should note that the HDMI to Thunderbolt adapter connected to my Macbook air didn't work either, so I'm less confident in that setup than I could be. I have also tried connecting the monitor via HDMI to adapter 1: (HDMI to Thunderbolt) to adapter 2: (Thunderbolt to USB type C). I spent part of my day today attempting to troubleshoot this issue with Apple's tech support, but didn't get anywhere. Unfortunately Dell gets around the issue by claiming that it only supports Windows PCs, and I haven't been able to find anything like a firmware update online for the monitor. What works on the Macbook Air now does not work on the new Macbook Pro. So I had anticipated plugging the same cable into my new macbook via the USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter, but it doesn't work. In the past, I have used my Dell 34 inch ultra-wide monitor (U3415W) by connecting it via its included displayport to miniDP cable directly to my 13-inch Macbook Air (mid 2013). With it, I purchased an adapter for USB type C to Thunderbolt 2. I just bought a 15-inch Macbook Pro (late 2016, w/ touchbar). ![]()
